St. Mary's Food Kitchen
March 12
Queen volunteers have long supported St. Mary's Food Kitchen. We serve casseroles and side dishes on the second Thursday of each month. St. Mary's has served over 4.5 million meals since it was founded in the basement of St. Mary's Catholic Church at 5th and Ann in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1982. When the church closed in 1997, the food kitchen moved six blocks to the Willamina Gill Multi-Service Center at 645 Nebraska. It is one of the largest in the Kansas City metro, serving lunch to 600 to 700 people, about 20 percent of which are children. About 15 percent are homeless and most of the remaining are unemployed or underemployed. For some, it is the only meal of the day.
Our parishioners help by preparing casseroles to serve for lunch. Look for foil pans for casseroles on the Hospitality Desk the weekend before our day to serve. Drop off casseroles at the southeast doors on Thursday between 7:30-9:00 a.m. Volunteers are especially needed to help serve - please consider taking time to join us in this rewarding ministry. First Saturday Street Ministry

On the first Saturday of each month, parishioners help the Sisters and Friars of the Poor of Jesus Christ Franciscan Sisters’ home in Kansas City, Kansas, feed the poor. Your help is very much appreciated! Click here for more information.
